Pediatric Mental Health

Autism

We created Desert Mind Space to offer mental health support where it is needed most. We embrace neurodivergence and our goal is to help families lessen the stress involved in finding care for their kiddos on the spectrum. We are comfortable with the wide variety of sensory challenges children on the spectrum may face, and we want to help your child get all of the services they need so they can blossom! We can also assist and refer to various supportive resources and help advocate for 504/IEP/MET/DDD.

ADHD, Attention, Hyperactivity, and Impulse Issues

Does your child struggle to pay attention at school? Does the teacher report that they never complete their work? Do they have problems sitting still or trouble with downtime? Do you ever think that you have failed as a parent? Do you worry that your child faces a difficult path as they grow up?

These are all normal thoughts, especially if you have a child who is struggling. We understand that you love your child unconditionally and you want your child to be successful. It is important to identify their struggles early on so we can help them find the right resources.

  • Did you know that an ADHD diagnosis is often missed in girls due to the stereotype that it is mainly seen in boys?

  • Did you know that children who have ADHD are often bullied in school and can feel isolated from their peers?

  • Did you know that sometimes children are diagnosed with ADHD that may, in fact, have a learning disability requiring specific therapies?

  • Do you feel guilty or judged because you think your child may need medication for behavior or attention issues?

It is imperative to rule out any learning difficulties and get your child adequate support. We can help you navigate the education system to advocate for your child. If medication is an excellent option to help your child, we will make sure that you are educated and comfortable with the treatment plan. We always follow your child closely and see them in person in the office for medication and behavior monitoring.

Being a parent is truly an exhausting journey, and it is just not easy. We have encountered many parents who want help but cannot find it…..or do not know where to start. Knowledge is power, and being here reading this right now is the first step. Though the journey may be challenging, it can be easier with a robust support system.

We want to help you on this journey with your child as they grow. You should not feel alone, and neither should they!
